Shelly’s Take Away – St Georges Basin: A Review
A welcoming spot for classic Aussie takeaway with great accessibility
Introduction
If you’re after a top-notch lunchtime feed in St Georges Basin, Shelly’s Take Away is a spot well worth checking out. Known locally for its delicious hamburgers, generous serves of chips, and an old-school menu full of Aussie classics, this takeaway joint has plenty to offer both locals and visitors alike.
Food and Menu
Shelly’s Take Away delivers all the favourites you’d expect from a classic Aussie takeaway. From juicy burgers and crunchy chips to Chiko rolls and more, there’s something here to satisfy every craving. On my last visit, I opted for a small chips and a Chiko roll. Both were fantastic – the chips were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the Chiko roll hit the spot. Whether you’re after a quick lunch or a filling meal, the range of options means you won’t leave hungry.
Accessibility
Accessibility at Shelly’s is pretty good for a takeaway spot. There’s a small ramp out the front, making it easy to get up into the store, even if you’re using a wheelchair. While there is a small step, it’s manageable, and I had no trouble getting my wheelchair through the door. It’s clear some thought has gone into making the shop accessible for everyone.
Facilities
While Shelly’s doesn’t have a disability toilet on-site, there is one available nearby in the shopping district area. Given that this is primarily a takeaway shop and not a full-service restaurant, this isn’t a major issue, but it’s something to keep in mind if you require accessible facilities.
Outdoor Seating
One of the best features is the outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying your meal in the fresh air. The tables are easy to move, so if you need to adjust things to suit your needs, it’s not a hassle – especially if you have a support worker or friend on hand to help out. It’s a comfortable spot to sit, eat, and watch the world go by.
Overall Verdict
All things considered, I give Shelly’s Take Away a solid 4.5 stars. The only thing holding back a perfect score is the lack of an on-site disability toilet, but with one nearby, it’s a minor drawback. The food is fantastic, the staff are friendly, and the shop is accessible and accommodating. I’d recommend Shelly’s to anyone who loves a good feed and classic takeaway fare – I’ll definitely be coming back!
